Myrtle Beach Attractions – The Ripley’s Aquarium

Whether you are looking for a break from the sun and the sand or you get stuck with a rare rainy day at the beach, a trip to the Ripley’s Aquarium should definitely be a part of your Myrtle Beach vacation itinerary. Perfect for couples or families, the Ripley’s Aquarium is sure to enchant guests of all ages and offers something for everyone. From the friendly fish on rainbow rock to the fierce sharks in the dangerous reef, you can get up close and personal with a variety of nautical species.

Begin your trip with a visit by the Rio Amazon exhibit, which showcases species that are commonly found in the Amazon Rainforest. You can expect to see poison dart frogs, which are highly toxic despite their small size, piranhas, which are known for their carnivorous tendencies, and Arapaima, which are some of the largest fresh water fish on the planet.

Continue on to the Rainbow Rock exhibit. This colorful aquarium replicates an indo-pacific coral reef and is home to hundreds of brilliant tropical species. Here, guests can view familiar favorites from Finding Nemo like clownfish and regal blue tang, in addition to other well knows species, like the Moorish idol and the clown triggerfish. If you are lucky, you might even catch one of the dive shows, where the diving staff does into the tank and hand feeds the fish!

One of the most exciting exhibits is the Dangerous Reef. Guests move along a 340-foot long glidepath and wind through acrylic tunnels that go through the giant tank. The reason that this reef is dangerous will quickly be evident, as you will be surrounded by giant stingrays, sawfish, and large sharks! This exhibit is the largest and most popular in the aquarium – and it’s not hard to see why! Do you have what it takes to come face to face with a shark?

Visitors to the Ripley’s Aquarium will also have the opportunity to visit the Discovery Center, a hands on portion of the attraction that offers fun, educational programs throughout the day. Play with friendly stone crabs, hear educational speakers, learn the secret on how puffer fish get so big, and more! There is also a café for guests to grab a bite to eat and refuel for the rest of the day.

The Ripley’s Aquarium is perfect for anyone who is looking to take a break from the beach and enjoy one of Myrtle Beach’s area attractions. A favorite among visitors and locals alike, this attraction offers exhibits that can be enjoyed by guests of all ages and should definitely be a part of your beach tradition.
