My Time To Be a Tourist
Diane B • Gatlinburg, TN
Growing up as the daughter of a disabled WWII vet, my family never took vacations. Money was tight, and Dad was unable to travel for long distances. Right after college I started working in Gatlinburg, a resort town in the Great Smoky Mountains. I followed my upbringing and never took an out of state vacation.
I was almost 40 before a friend talked me into going to Myrtle Beach, because I had never seen the ocean. So in Sept. after the tourist slowdown we drove to Myrtle Beach and I saw the Atlantic Ocean for the first time in my life. A memory I will never forget. It might be a better story if I said we stayed at the Beach Cove and it was "magical", but no.
I started planning an annual vacation to Myrtle Beach every Sept., but we always stayed in the south part. The hotels and beaches were adequate but I knew there was something better calling me. (here's your magic). In the early 2000's I started making online reservations and then through a link I found a place called the Beach Cove. It was a little above my price range, but it was beautiful. The poolscape, the amenities kept drawing me back to their website. Just when I was about to make my 2005 reservations in the South, I got an email for a Fall Free Night special from Beach Cove. I booked with Beach Cove.
I was almost as excited as my first trip to the ocean. This was the place the I had been looking at online for over a yr and I got to stay there on my budget. From the moment we arrived, opened the door to the room until the day we left, I wasn't disappointed. We have made it our Sept destination ever since.
So friends, that's my story. After a whole year of dealing with tourists,(and I do appreciate the tourists), I get to be the tourist. The Beach Cove is my ocean of happiness away from my mountains of work. Thanks Beach Cove, you make me happy.
