Memories

We checked into the Ocean Creek Resort on Thursday afternoon, 8/12/2004 - a beautiful place!  Friday we spent the day at the beach and then headed to Barefoot Landing only to hear people talking about evacuating for a hurricane!  We rushed back to our room - I called and made a reservation further inland and we went to bed, planning on getting up at 3am to leave.  We're from Illinois - we don't know anything about hurricanes.....so, we drove and drove until we got to Conway, found out we couldn't get into our room there until 3pm and Charley is on the way!  We went to a Shoney's and they welcomed us to come in and eat and hang out until they had to close up.  Some folks told us the local high school was just down the road and we could hunker down there.  What an experience!!  Met lots of nice people and made the best of a bad situation.  Finally around mid afternoon we fot the all clear so we headed back to our condo only to find Ocean Creek was CLOSED!!  They told us about their sister resort - Beach Cove so we headed over there.  They were AWESOME!!  We got checked in to a suite and headed down to the beach.  Never would have thought that less than 12 hours ago we were running from a hurricane.  We just ended up having a wonderful time and everyone there was so nice.  So, it's now 2009 and we are coming back to do Beach Cove the right way - spend a week there with no threat of hurricanes!  What a great place to get away from the stress of our daily grind!  We will for ever remember Beach Cove and Hurrican Charley!!!
