Country Roads - Take Me Home

Country Roads, Take me Home....you are probably wondering why that title...well...let me start off by saying my family and I have been traveling to Myrtle Beach for the past 26 years...Beach Cove has sort of become our home away from home..the same week for the past 26years...we love it here..my dad was set on retiring to Myrtle Beach. While out playing golf dad and I would often drive around to look for our future home.. shopping at Barefoot, dinners at Broadway and yes...dancing the night away at the House of Blues have become apart of our lives for many years..Last year was extra special.. my sister had decided that she would marry on the beach that was so dear to our hearts and with the arrival of my first nephew, my parents couldnt wait to spoil their first grandchild at our vacation spot. A week prior to our trip, my dad had come down with something that he just could shake, stubborn as he was I insisted to take him to the medical center the week before we were set to leave for Myrtle Beach...pnuemonia!! The doctor presribed some meds and we left a couple of days later for vacation and to celebrate my sisters wedding...dad was so sick the entire trip but really toughed it out..he was disappointed that he was too sick to play golf (his favorite thing to do at MB) but was still strong enough to walk my sister down the sandy isle....Little did we know how sick dad really was until we got home..soon after we got home my dad was diagnosed with leukemia. Dad was in for the fight of his life, but still he told me that he would one day play golf again at Myrtle Beach. Dad was hospitalized for over 55 weeks in just five months, and although he never gave up...the leukemia had the upper hand. On August 20th, this year, the very day we would of started our family vacation to Myrtle Beach, my mom, sister and I held the funeral service for my dad....It has been a very emotional and rough year for all of us...However, we will not let this past year define our family but will rejoice in the time that we had together, the 37years of marriage, a father who has always been there, and a poppop that loved his grandchildren (yes, there are now two grandbabies, my sister gave birth to her 2nd baby 8 days after my dads passing) and always..our family vacations to Beach Cove Resort, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina..
