Planning a family vacation in Myrtle Beach can quickly escalate into a costly endeavor; accommodations, meals, activities...the list of things to budget goes on and on! But, did you know that there are plenty of things to do that won’t cost you a dime? That’s right! The Myrtle Beach area is packed with free things to do! Check out some of these fun, family friendly events that are taking place this summer in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach and pack your vacation itinerary with free fun:
Sounds of Summer
Check out the brand new North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex and enjoy open air entertainment at the Sounds of Summer concert series. This pristine outdoor venue boasts vast amounts of green space, two brand new playground facilities, several sports fields, and scenic picnic areas. Once a month on Fridays beginning May 15th until September 18th, the sports complex will host live music. Bring a few chairs and blankets and settle in for a night of fun! The music begins at 7pm and wraps up around 9pm. This event is totally free, though food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Movies at McLean
Gather your family and cozy up at McLean Park for a free movie under the starts! Once a month, the city will screen a family friendly movie on a large outdoor screen. This month, on June 12th, guests are invited to watch Planes: Fire and Rescue. The movie will begin at 8:45 pm. Grab a few chairs and blankets and arrive early to grab your seat and enjoy a little play time at the park. There will also be food and drinks available for purchase. Other dates for this event include: July 10th, August 14th, October 9th.
Pack up your crew and head just up the road to the expansive Barefoot Landing complex to enjoy their exciting SummerFest! activities. The fun starts in June and goes through the end of August every day of the week from 6pm – 11pm at various spots throughout the venue. Guests can enjoy lively games, face painting, live entertainment, roaming street performers, and much more. There will also be weekly fireworks shows each Monday night at 10:15 pm and free carousel rides every Saturday. Not visiting in the summer? Don’t fret – Barefoot Landing hosts an array of other free events throughout the year.
Music on Main
Music on Main is another great free concert series that always draws a crowd. Head to the “horseshoe” section of downtown North Myrtle Beach to enjoy a free open air concert! These concerts take place each Thursday through September from 7pm – 9pm. Enjoy dining and shopping downtown and then scope out a spot to take in the summertime tunes. The bands and genres will vary each week but will always be family friendly. This event is the perfect way to end any beach day!
Hot Summer Nights
The popular Myrtle Beach Boardwalk portion of downtown Myrtle Beach is the headquarters for Hot Summer Nights. This free, family-friendly event takes place all summer long and is made up of several other events throughout the week. Families with younger children will want to check out the Kids Carnival on Mondays June 8 through August 24, which will offer face painting, street entertainment, games, inflatables, and much more, while Wednesdays, June 10 through August 19 (except not on July 1), offer a fantastic fireworks show over the ocean. Other nights will offer seaside concerts, street entertainment, and plenty more. The Boardwalk is also home to an array of dining, shopping, and entertainment, making it easy to turn your afternoon adventure into an evening excursion.
